NACOC 2022 (some of the things we did!)
January - Again, due to continuing Covid restrictions, we start the year by moving our first meeting onto the ZOOM video conference platform. Hopefully things will normalize soon! Just to recap 2021, a member produced a list of 56 “Big Things” to see throughout Alberta. Members were urged to drive around the province to get photos of their cars with a “Big Thing” in the background. It was interesting to see how many places the members got to! The "2021 Alberta Big Things" slideshow below contains pictures from some of the trips taken. One member says he put about 5000 Kms alone on his new Corvette just searching out these provincial treasures!
May - September - Ice Creams runs every 3rd Wednesday. Always somewhere different. See the "Calendar of Events" tab here on the website for locations.
May 3rd - NACOC was invited to the grand opening of Yesterdays Auto Gallery Car Museum in Edmonton. There they have about 100 cars and motorcycles from the 1920's to current day on display as well as a gift shop and a 50's style diner. A worthwhile place to visit!
May 20-23 was the first sanctioned CCCC event since Covid began in 2020. Although it was a rainy trip up to Prince George, on Friday the skies cleared and it turned out to be a great weekend for Shine & Show, Concours, Rallye, Slalom on the tarmac and finally fun runs at the Quesnel Kart Track.
June - It rained!
July 1-3 - NACOC hosted the 48th Northland Corvette Conference. The event was hosted at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center and the welcome evening included our Valve Cover Racing, where the big money is won! Unfortunately it rained for both the Shine & Show and Concours competition events as well as for the Rallye later in the day. Sunday, however, was a beautiful day for our Slalom at Stratotech Park in Fort Saskatchewan. We ran single lap runs in the morning and double laps in the afternoon with a modified track layout. Everything went off without delay. This is a great facillity for our event and I'm sure we'll be going back in the future. At the awards banquet a presentation was made to Mike Reesick for his contributions to the club for designing and building many special awards over the years with this year being no exception! Thanks Mike.
July 30 - Aug 1 - Corvettes Unlimited in Calgary hosted CCCC Convention 2022. The weather was on their side. It was nice for the Shine & Show/ Concours at the Hotel Clique on Sunday but on Monday the Slalom in Red Deer was cut short as a storm came in. The cars were back in Calgary before the hailstorm struck on the QE2! Yes, that is correct, Red Deer. The slalom was originally to be held at the Rocky Mountain Motorsports Race Circuit in Carstairs but was cancelled at the last moment. Does this remind you of what happend to NACOC last year? Hosting these event is challenging at the best of times. A large contingent showed up from Manitoba, taking the participation award for Convention 2022. The banquet was followed by a 1970's dance. Everyone had a great time. However a couple of hardship awards were presented!
Aug 2-6 - Members of NACOC attended the events at Rock'n August in St. Albert including the car show.
Aug 14 - Many of our members attended a car show at Sherwood GMC, - a NACOC sponsor. It was a very successful event!
Sept 11 - A beautiful fall day saw club members gather at the Sibbald's for this year's edition of the Extreme Croquet Tournament. After completing a very challenging course, everyone enjoyed the barbeque and pot luck supper.
Sept 25 - The first "Meet in the Middle" luncheon at Red Deer's Phoenix Buffet drew together members of NACOC and Calgary's Corvettes Unlimited for a meal and afternoon of visiting at Borley's Garage. Everyone agreed that this should become an annual event!
Oct 15 - Just in time for one of the last Corvette outings before the winter type weather sets in, 20 members of the club reserved a seating at the Bruce Hotel for a steak dinner and fabulous buffet. The Bruce Hotel, originally built in 1911, is a favourite pit stop for NACOC.
Nov 05 - NACOC held a combined Awards Banquet and Christmas party with 39 members attending. The traditional gift exchange saw plenty of action on some of the gifts! As always, the club collected gifts for Santa's Anonymous. In addition, $1000 was raised to donate through the purchase of scratch tickets that gave a chance at one of fifty prizes. A great evening!
